Flea markets Amsterdam
Amsterdam Markets
Many tourists tend to overlook markets on a visit to a city but a visit to a local flea market is always a special experience and should not to be missed.
Amsterdam offers several markets making shopping bit different from the normal run of the mill shops you now find on every main shopping street the world over and are always the best way to pick up a bargain either for yourself or for your friends as a present.
Amsterdam has several permanent markets and a number of once a month markets
and others appear when they feel like it.
Most of them open during normal business hours but many stalls do not set up if it looks like rain or the entire market closes if it gets too windy. Of course while you are browsing remember to keep an eye on your personal belongings while browsing as markets tend to be one of the best places to operate as a pick pocket. You have been warned.
There are a few good markets but none to match London's Camden town or the huge market in Paris but as markets go Waterlooplein is Amsterdam's biggest and best and is located right in the heart of the city centre. Only opens Monday to Saturday- Closes on the busiest market day of the week - Sunday because of some crazy Dutch Sunday trading laws or something like that.
Most of the other markets are walk-able but a few you would have to take a tram journey. Whatever your looking for you are likely to find it at one of the many markets.
Below is a list of all the markets we know about and what your likely to find there.
