BRIEF HISTORY OF AJAX
Ajax club was born on the 18th of March 1900 and quickly became one of the most successful and talked about football clubs in Europe. After being accepted into the Dutch Football league Ajax spent it's first ten years in the second division before being promoted in 1911 but this did not last very long as they were back down again to the second division just three seasons later, this being the first and last time in the clubs history.
The newly appointed coach called Reynolds was a huge influence on the club and from the time he joined Ajax would if not topping the league would be in the top few in the Dutch table. It was also Reynolds and his amazing training methods that started the foundation for what is now one of the worlds most famous youth training programs.
The clubs first major win came in 1918 and was the first of 28 league titles to date five of which
came in the the 1930's when the dominance of the club was at its highest.
The 1930's were also a special decade for the club as they and the supporters had outgrown their present club house so in 1934 they packed up and moved into what became know as "De Meer."
This new stadium would be home to the club for over sixty years and where many footballing legends would be born and be the place that the club would come to dominate Dutch football league and start taking on the rest of Europe.
Ajax' first European success came in 1961 when the club participated in the European Cup Winners Cup for the first time but it was not for another ten year (1971) that they actually brought home the cup for the first time, they then repeated this in 1972 and again in 1973.
1972 was an amazing year, led by Johan Cruijff they went on to win the National Championship, the Dutch Cup, the European Champions Cup and then went on to win the World Cup.
"De Meer" was also the place where the famous Ajax youth training program would really start developing some of the world's most famous football players, a philosophy that is even more important to their success today.
The success of the late 1960's and early 1970's has so far never been repeated but that is not to say \Ajax have not been successful they have in the last 30 years won 11 National Championships and again became European and world champions in 1995.
With the club now bursting at the seams from lack of space they decided they once again needed to make a move to another new stadium.
So 1996 saw the birth of the Amsterdam Arena and with it a new chapter in the history of the team.
1998 Ajax found themselves once again winning both the National Championship and their 14th Dutch Cup. .
Keep it up boys.
