Amsterdam Sightseeing

Amsterdam with it's grand old canal-side merchants’ houses (where modern Amsterdammers now live, almost on top of each other), it's world famous coffeeshops, brown cafes, red-light district, amazing museums, world famous canals, windmills and lots more. Wether your young or old,  dead or not dead Amsterdam has something for everyone, except for mountain climbers.

Sightseeing Overview:
If your coming to Netherlands to climb the highest mountain, do not waste your time because we are  FLAT. No mountains to climb maybe, but we have lots of other things to do.

Being  flat and compact , Amsterdam city centre is easy to get around on foot or by bike.
Amsterdam is a very small city indeed that's why everyone rides a bike.

But an ever better way to see the city during your visit is a canal tour. Seeing Amsterdam from the water is truly amazing as you really get to see the the city in a whole different way, the buildings and house boats are so much better seen from the water.

Damrak by Central Station, and Rokin by the Spui are the main areas to get a canal boat ride.
They last about 90 minutes, and take you around the city and through the harbor some of them operate the hop on hop off system and have stops around the city, mostly at the main attractions so you can hop off, visit the attraction and then hop back on the next boat.

If you're feeling energetic and your legs are strong,  you can hire a Canal Bike from one of several locations around the city (Westerkerk, Leidseplein, Leidsestraat, Rijksmuseum), and choose your own route but be warned your legs quickly give up unless your used to cycling so do not go to far as you'll be knackered by the time you pedal all the way back.

If you choose a canal boat trip do two tours, one by day and another by night, By night Amsterdam is truly amazing as most Amsterdammers do NOT use curtains you can see inside there houses and admire the amazing splendor of the insides and at night all the canals are lit up by 1000's of bulbs so they look even better..

Amsterdam's attractions are located in several different areas, there is the Museum quarter where most of the major museums can be found and are within walking distance of each other but if your not a walker make use of the very efficient tram and bus networks which go all over Amsterdam and stop near all the attractions,

World famous museums, such as the Rijksmuseum, Rembrandt's House,  Anne Frank Museum,Amsterdam's Historic Museum, Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art, Van Gogh Museum and the NEMO Museum can all be reached by foot or rent a bike.

Other things Amsterdam has to offer are it's brown cafes, coffeeshops and  Red-light district with prostitutes displaying their wears in the red lit windows day and night.

If this is not for you or if you just fancy getting away from all the madness for a few hours, Amsterdam is blessed with loads of quiet canals with plenty of benches to sit and just watch the world go by or  relax for a few minutes and smoke a joint or if you like head to one of the parks , Vondel park being the biggest  provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

Vondel park offers open-air free concerts during summer, just find a spot, put your jacket or if you have come prepared,  put your blanket down and spread out and listen to the music while smoking a big fat joint. Pure Bliss..
