Weather
The warmest weather is from June to August with temperatures between 25 - 28 degrees Celsius but in recent years temperatures have hit as high as 36C and as a result air-conditioning is beginning to catch on in a bit way. April and May can be very nice months and September, October and November can also be a nice time to visit. December to March can bring every type of weather, warmish sunny days to monsoon rains. When the temperatures reaches well a few degrees below zero and the canal freeze over (Last time 1998) Amsterdammers go ice skating.
Air quality
The air in Amsterdam is relatively humid during summer but air quality is excellent. You can really notice the difference when you come from more populated countries.

In Amsterdam you can get all four seasons in the one day. No kidding. Below are a rough guide to what you can expect weather wise when you arrive in Amsterdam.
January - average 3-5°C (36-40°F). Cold and Wet, chance of snow but the odd bright sunny days also possible
February- average 3-8°C (36-45°F). Cold, good chance of snow, windy and wet but again the odd dry day.
March - average 8-15°C (46-59°F).Bright from 6am.Can be cold and windy, chance of some snow. Nice bright fresh days also.
April average 12-17°C (53-62°F) Start of summer, leaves back on the trees. Some lovely days, bright sun shine but can get cold at night. Chance of some rain and the odd windy day.. Tulips bloom.
May average 12-25°C (53-77°F) A little hotter, can be cool at night. Mostly bright sunny days.
June average 15-25°C (59-77°F) Some very hot days, average day 17C/ 62°F.
July average 21-30°C (61-86°F) Bright hot sunny days with usually not a cloud in the sky. 2006 saw temperatures as high as 36.6.
August average 21-30°C (61-86°F) Usually bright Hot sunny days but August 2006 was the wettest on record.
September 15-25°C 68-86°C. A lovely month in Amsterdam, nice warm to very warm sunny days with either little or no rain and the nights are cooler making sleep easier.
October average 13 °C. / 55 °F / Starts to get a bit colder, some rain but also bright coolish sunny days. October 31st each year see's the last day of all Amsterdam terraces until March 1st.
November 6 °C/ 42 °F , Winter has arrived but also some nice bright days, some rain but all in all not to bad
December- Average 5 °C/ 41 °F . Cold and wet, can be very windy but again the odd bright coldish sunny day.
During the winter it can go below freezing as it did in winter 2005 /2006, some of the canals froze over but not enough to allow skating. Ice melted most days after the sun same out to play other days if just lied floating on the top of the canal which the ducks and sea gulls were using as dry land.
